Sergi Francolí-Xavier Moreno (CSM Automoció), despite finishing sixth, are the only team that can challenge Berdomás for the title.
The Rally La Nucía-Mediterráneo Trofeo Costa Blanca was the seventh event of theTOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup season and the last to be held on tarmac. Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group) and Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) were tied on points in the overall classification. Both were ready to fight for the title from the very first kilometer, but this foreseeable fight was soon solved following the brake issues that the Catalan driver suffered in the first three stages of the rally, dropping him to the bottom of the classification.
Even so, Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group) did not slow down the pace and set the best time in the first stage, establishing from the beginning an insurmountable difference for all his rivals.
After the assistance, Francolí solved his problems and the Catalan driver set off in search of the comeback, something he showed by scoring seven scratches during the rally, climbing to the sixth final position of the rally.
Behind, Javi Villa (Asturhíbrido) and Alberto Monarri (IPPON Motor Vallés) fought one of the most beautiful battles of the season for second place on the podium. The driver from Madrid finished ahead in the first stage, but the Asturian answered back from the first stages of the second day. Finally, Villa, who has been very competitive on tarmac, would be the one to take the second place, by a difference of only 0.8 seconds over Monarri, and thus becoming the driver of the cup with the most consecutive podiums this season (three). Both Villa and Monarri moved up in the overall classification of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup thanks to this result.
Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció), who until this event had mathematical options to fight for the title, could not keep them despite being in fourth position from the first stage, with a steady pace but insufficient to be among the leading drivers.
Behind, Pierre Lafay (CHL Sportauto) was another driver who kept the same position during the entire rally. The fifth place allowed him to score some important points and move up two positions in the overall classification, after also benefiting from the absence of the Portuguese driver Miguel Campos (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing). Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) was also absent, which left the representation of Portuguese drivers exclusively to Pedro Lago (Toyota Caetano Auto), who finished in seventh position, the same position he holds in the overall classification of the TGR Iberian Cup.
Joan Sabater (CSM Automoció) and José Mulero (Labasa) completed the classification by finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Albert Llovera (Grupo La Grajera) and Antonio Sainz (KOBE Motor) could not finish the race.
The next round of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI will be held in Pozoblanco, on gravel, on November 17 and 18. It will be the eighth and last of an exciting season, where the champion of this 2023 edition will be decided. A title to which only Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group) and Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) aspire, being Berdomás the favorite as he depends on himself to win the dreamed
