Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció), currently second in the overall classification, is the favorite due to his mastery and victory in the 2023 edition.
After a two-week break following the event held in Cordoba, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup returns to action, again in Portuguese territory, with the Rallye Terras D'Aboboreira (April 26 and 27). It will be the third of the eight events scheduled for this year. This will also mean the return of the gravel, after the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup opened the season in Fafe at the end of February. As then, a high level of competitiveness is expected among the ten registered teams.
If Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció) started the season on the right foot by topping the podium in Fafe, Javi Villa (Asturhíbrido), the Spanish Hillclimb Champion who is increasingly confident in rallying, confirmed in Córdoba that he will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in the fight for the title. The victory of the Asturian driver in Andalusia, in a race characterized by withdrawals, enabled him to take the lead in the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI.
Villa has a difference of five points over the Bolivian Bruno Bulacia, both with an important advantage over the Catalan Josep Bassas (IPPON Motor Vallés), who was not happy in the previous race when he had to retire when he was the leader. Bulacia, winner in the Terras D'Aboboreira in 2023, returns to this race as the main favorite, since it was here where he got his first victory in the TGR Iberian Cup.
In this race, which will take place in Terras D'Aboboreira, Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), José Mulero (Labasa) and José Lamela (Grupo Breogán), who retired in Córdoba, will aim to breach the gap with their closest opponents.
Miguel Campos (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), who finished second in the Andalusian race, is now third in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, even though he did not finish in Fafe at the start of the season, taking only two points. Campos is three points ahead of Pedro Lago (Toyota Caetano Auto). Both drivers, who are racing at home, aspire to improve their positions in the trophy classification.
José Lamela (Breogán Group), sixth classified, and Carlos Rodríguez (Breogán Group), who has not scored any points yet, will debut in the stages of Aboboreira, which will be a disadvantage for them.
Manuel Martins and José Mulero (Labasa), who have also failed to score any points so far, enjoy the advantage of being familiar with the special stages of the rally organized by the Automóvil Club of Amarante. Their main objective will be to score the first points of the year.
The Rallye Terras D'Aboboreira, with 107.66 timed kilometers, starts on Friday afternoon with the first stage, Baião Vida Natural (16.93 km). And in the evening, the super special stage (2 km), Amarante Natureza Criativa, will be held in the center of the city of the same name. On Saturday, the drivers will complete the remaining five special stages, with two passes through Amarante (22.54 km). The rally is scheduled to finish in Amarante at 19:00 pm.
