Javi Villa (Asturhíbrido), who was the overall leader until this third race, limited the damage in the TGR Iberian Cup classification by finishing fourth and scoring 14 points.
Bruno Bulacia and Gabriel Morales, of the CSM Automoció team, were the winners of the third scoring round of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup 2024, the Rallye Terras D'Aboboreira, and return to the top of the championship. The young Bolivian, who will turn 22 years old in August, also leads the Junior classification, reserved for drivers under 24 years old in the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI.
Bulacia led the race from start to finish, with a lead of 2 minutes 17.8 seconds over the second classified, despite receiving, even, a ten-second penalty (for delay in the Time Control of the second stage). Bulacia won five of the seven stages of the race, which allowed him to add five additional points to the 21 points awarded for winning the rally. In addition, he finished 14th overall in the rally with the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup, in a race in which several world championship drivers took part, who took advantage of this race to prepare for the World Championship Rally of Portugal.
Bulacia's fast pace was clear in the 16 kilometers of TC1, Baião Vida Natural, where he left his most direct rival, Pedro Lago and Marco Macedo (Toyota Caetano Auto), 41 seconds behind him. Josep Bassas and Xavi Moreno (IPPON Motor Vallés) were third and lost 43.9 seconds, but from that moment they started an interesting comeback to close the gap to 31.4 seconds after TC3, before they had to abandon the race.
Far from the winners, Miguel Campos and Joana Silva (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) achieved an excellent second place in the Rallye Terras D'Aboboreira, allowing them to move up to third place in the TGR Iberian Cup. The driver from Vila Nova de Famalicão made a race that went better and better with the GR Yaris, climbing from fifth position after the first special stage, to take the second step of the podium, which was reached in the last stage.
The joy of some was in stark contrast to the sadness of others, as the second step was occupied by Pedro Lago (Toyota Caetano Auto) from TC5. Finally, he had to settle for third place. Earlier, he himself had benefited from the abandonment of Bassas, who retired in the fifth stage when he was in second place. Nevertheless, the Catalan driver was able to score two points by winning two special stages. He is now sixth in the overall classification with 25 points.
Javi Villa and Enrique Velasco (Asturhíbrido) were fourth, just ahead of José Lamela and Unai Conde (Breogán Group). Manuel Martins and Rui Vilaça finished sixth, while José Mulero and Roberto Martínez (Labasa) closed the classification. Among the withdrawals, in addition to Bassas, there were also the teams Carlos Rodríguez/David Nieto (Breogán Group) and Ricardo Costa/Rui Vilaça (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing).
The event organized by the Club Automóvil de Amarante was characterized by the heavy rains on Friday and Saturday morning, although it did not have too much of an impact on the conditions of the special stages. Now, after the gravel sections of Aboboreira, the fourth event of the season in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup will take place on June 7th and 8th, on the asphalt of the Rallye de Lisboa.
