After finishing second in Asturias, Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció) holds second place, 8 points ahead of Dani Berdomás (Grupo Breogán).
The high competitiveness of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup will be demonstrated again this weekend (13 and 14 October), with the return of the competition after a break of just over a month. It will be in the Vidreiro Rally, sixth of the eight events that make up the season. In total, 11 teams are registered, among which are the main players of the year. The group is headed by Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció), the overall leader and current champion of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI.
The Catalan driver of the CSM Automoció team, who started the year by winning the Serras de Fafe Rally, has led the Cup from the start and increased his lead from 8 to 15 points after his victory in the last race, the Princesa de Asturias Rally, held on September 9 and 10. It was Francolí's second victory of the season, whose advantage is maintained also by the regularity shown throughout the rallies held so far.
On the other hand, Bolivian Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció) has moved into second place in the overall classification after the Asturian rally, increasing his lead over Galician Dani Berdomás (Grupo Breogán) from 1 to 8 points. Bulacia was second in the last rally, in which Berdomás could only finish fourth. Until Asturias, Berdomás was the only driver with two victories this season.
In fourth position in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup -at a time when major decisions are being made for 2024 - is Portugal's Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), 17 points behind the third ranked driver and only one point ahead of Madrid's Alberto Monarri (IPPON Motor Vallés) who is fifth. A very close fight for the fourth place that allows both drivers to aspire for the Trophy, although they are already 40 and 41 points behind the leader, respectively.
Further behind the leader, 53 points behind, is Asturian Javi Villa (Asturhíbrido), in sixth position, a driver who has won nine Spanish Hillclimb Championship titles and who took advantage of running "at home" to climb two places in the overall classification. Therefore, he pushed Portuguese drivers Pedro Lago Vieira (Toyota Caetano Auto) and Miguel Campos (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) down to seventh and eighth place respectively.
The list of entries in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup for this event is completed by José Mulero (Labasa), Joan Sabater (CSM Automoció) and the driver registered with KOBE Motor, Antonio Sainz, brother of the renowned Carlos Sainz (WRC and Dakar champion) and uncle of Carlos Sainz Jr, Ferrari driver in Formula 1.
The Vidreiro Rally closes the Portuguese rally championship and consists of 8 timed sections, entirely on tarmac. The rally will start on the afternoon of Friday, October 13, with TC1, at 16:35 (Portuguese time), and the Superspecial (TC2), at 20:00. The 2nd stage will take place on Saturday, with 6 more sections, to complete a total of 105.50 km timed over the two days. The weather forecast announces showers for Friday and very cloudy skies for Saturday.
