Bolivian Bruno Bulacia (CSM Automoció) is two points ahead of Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) and Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing).
The Lisbon Rally, which takes place from June 16 to 18, is the debut on tarmac of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup this year. The championship reaches the midpoint of the season with a difference of two points between the first classified and their immediate competitors. This rally, new to all and given the current parity, is expected to be very exciting from the start, as candidates are not lacking in the fight for victory, with drivers seeking to increase their advantage whilst others seek to regain positions in the overall classification of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSi.
Three rallies have been held so far, with three different winners, which shows the current competitiveness and interest in the TGR Iberian Cup. The couple of Bruno Bulacia-Axel Coronado (CSM Automoció) is in the first position after dominating the Rally Terras D'Aboboreira at the end of April. The Bolivian driver achieved the highest score (21+6 points) so far this season, which allowed him to take the lead with a two-point advantage over Sergi Francolí-Javier Moreno (CSM Automoció) and Ricardo Costa-Rui Vilaça (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing). Of this trio, Bulacia is the only one to have one abandonment, the one in Fafe -even so, he added 7 extra points-, while Francolí and Costa have been at the finish line in all three races, with the Spaniard winning in Fafe.
Alberto Monarri (IPPON Motor Vallés), who also has three results, is one of the most regular drivers and is in fourth place in the classification, 10 points behind the leader and 8 points behind the two chasing teams. The current "top 5" is closed by Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group), one of the drivers who has climbed to the top (Terra da Auga) this season, after starting the year in ninth place in Fafe and failing to finish in the Rally Terras D'Aboboreira. Although he has 21 points less, it should be remembered that, of the 8 races that make up the season, drivers can deduct one result from the races held in Portugal and another from those held in Spain, so the Breogán Group driver is still one of the contenders for the title.
Only 5 points behind Berdomás, in sixth place, is Pedro Lago Vieira (Toyota Caetano Auto), who has also shown his ability to progress in each rally, as has Miguel Campos (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), who in the first part of the season has been below expectations, with one abandonment (Fafe), a 9th and a 4th place. The driver from Famalicão is behind Frenchman Jean-Michel Raoux (WINTech Competiçáo), who will be absent again in Lisbon. José Mulero (Grupo Labasa) is tied on points with Campos.
In the tenth position of the TOYOTA GAZOO Iberian Cup is Javier Villa (Asturhíbrido), with a point advantage over Pierre Lafay (CHL Sportauto) and Isaac Vera (KOBE Motor), who have decided not to take part in this race. Albert Llovera (Grupo La Grajera), Joan Sabater (CSM Automoció) and Manu Gascou (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) close the general classification, along with Jonathan Rieu (WINTech Competiçáo), who has not yet scored any points.
With 10 timed special stages (100.86 km), the Lisbon Rally starts on Friday, with the qualifying stage (11:30) and shakedown (13:45-15:15) in the Torres Vedras region. The rally headquarters is located at the Pedrouços Pier, in Lisbon, as well as where the Assistance Park is located. The race, organized by the Portuguese Federation, starts on Saturday morning, at 9:00 a.m., with the stages of Vila Franca de Xira (8.66 km), Alenquer 1 (16.43 km) and Vinos de Lisboa 1 (5.26 km). In the afternoon, the drivers will return to these three sections and will also drive through Montejunto (9.08 km). On Sunday, the last three timed special stages, Loures (5.343 km), Transgrua (15.97 km) and ESC Online (9.77 km), will be contested, the rally will end at 13:39, near the Palace of Discoveries, in Lisbon.
