Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) is the leader of the competition, 8 points ahead of the second classified, Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo).
The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup is back in action this Friday, April 28th. A total of 14 registered teams will fight to climb to the top of the podium in the Rally Terras D'Aboboreira, an event that takes place in the Serra do Marão, featuring well-known stages for both drivers and fans.
This will be the third rally of the season to be held on dirt and, so far, there have been two drivers who have won on this surface. Sergi Francolí (CSM Autmoció), current championship leader, started the year with a win in Fafe; meanwhile, Dani Berdomás (Grupo Breogán) managed to turn the page over after a difficult start to the year and won the Rally da Auga Comarca de Ordes, proving that the season is long and that he is one of the names to have in the fight for the final title.
Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo) is second in the overall classification in the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and Motor & Sport Institute (MSi), following his top places in the two rallies held so far. In this event, he hopes to take profit of his knowledge of the terrain to challenge his rivals.
Alberto Monarri (IPPON Motor Vallés) is also expected to be in the fight, after his regularity has rewarded him with precious points. This allows him to be fourth in the championship, only one point ahead of one of the Junior drivers of the category, Bruno Bulacia, who wants to continue proving he is worth his value in a terrain where he feels very comfortable.
Nine more drivers make up the final entry list, in a rally whose terrain is more compact and, therefore, the average speed is higher. This aspect will push both the drivers and their respective GR Yaris to the limit, in an event that attracts thousands of fans.
One of the novelties is that several drivers will change co-driver: Javi Villa (Asturhíbrido) will now be accompanied by Enrique Velasco, while Manu Gascou will be accompanied by Silvestre Corentin.
Also expected for this event was the participation of the driver Craig Breen, who was going to compete in the Portuguese rally championship this year, and to whom tribute will be paid in his memory throughout the event. In particular, the Toyota GR Yaris RZ that will be the safety car for the rally will have his smile on its bodywork, which was undoubtedly his trademark image, as well as the colors of the flag of Ireland, his country of origin. These small messages will make this rally special in the wake of his sudden departure.
The Rallye Terras D'Aboboreira starts in the town of Marco de Canaveses this Friday afternoon, with a double pass through the "Baião Vida Natura" stage and the "Baião Destino Sustentável" night super special stage, with a distance of 1.5 kilometers in the city center. On Saturday evening, the teams will make a double pass through the "Aboboreira" (16.65 km), "Marão" (7.44 km) and "Amarante" (16.96 km) special stages.
