The regularity has been the great ally for the conquest of the title by Francolí and Salvo.
Viana do Castelo was the last scoring race of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, an event where four drivers had options to win the title and which was decided in the last stage.
Miguel Campos (Inside Motor) and Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) were tied on points at this last round, but, as established by the rules, all drivers had to deduct their worst result from the races held in Spain and their worst result from those held in Portugal.
Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció), knowing that it was enough for him to be second in the rally and win two stages (to add the extra point awarded to each driver for being the fastest in each special stage), sought from early in the morning this result, to be proclaimed champion and finish just 5.9 seconds behind Miguel Campos (Inside Motor).
A well-deserved victory for Sergi Francolí and María Salvo (CSM Automoció), thanks to having reached the top of the podium in four of the eight rallies held during the 2022 season, and which has allowed them to be crowned as the first champions of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup.
Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) was unable to win this time and dropped out of the fight for victory, finishing more than a minute behind the winner. But, this way, he secured the third place in the overall classification, the same position in which he finished this last race.
Dani Berdomás and Brais Mirón (Breogán Group) could also mathematically aspire to win the trophy, but they knew that an almost impossible combination of results had to happen, in addition to winning in Viana do Castelo. Looking for that result, during the second special stage of the rally they went off the track which forced them to abandon the rally, so they finally finished the season in fourth position in the overall classification.
Pedro Lago Vieira (Caetano Auto), Germán Gómez Fortes (Escudería Surco) and Víctor Calisto (Inside Motor) completed the list of rally finishers, scoring valuable points for the overall classification of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI.
In this last event, the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup has once again shown its performance on the asphalt, as it won all the stages of the rally and helped Campos and Francolí to take the first two positions in the absolute overall classification of the event. As a result, Miguel Campos (Inside Motor) has given the first outright victory to the Toyota GR Yaris RZ, further proof of its reliability and speed on the Iberian Peninsula stages.
Therefore, the closing of the season has been brilliant, with a result which leaves an excellent aftertaste ahead of 2023.
