Sergi Francolí ranks third in the overall classification and depends on himself to win the trophy.
The Rally Viana do Castelo, which takes place this Saturday, November 26th, will be the last scoring round for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, in which the title will be decided. Four drivers are competing for the long-awaited trophy in the first edition of the single-brand cup with the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup, a further sign of the evenly matched season and the competitiveness shown by these drivers.
Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) and Miguel Campos (Inside Motor) are tied at the top of the classification, although each driver has the obligation (as provided in the regulations) to subtract one result from the races held in Portugal and another result from the races held in Spain. Obviously, each driver will subtract his two worst results. That is why it is expected to be a hard-fought rally from the first stage.
Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) will not be alien to this fight, as he depends on himself to win the title. He will have to win the rally and, in addition, score additional points, since the victory in each stage earns a bonus point. This is something that is within his reach, as he is the driver who has won all the previous rallies on tarmac. The CSM Automoció team driver will have Axel Coronado as co-driver in Viana do Castelo. The couple is in a position to take the lead for the first time this season, precisely at the most decisive moment.
Daniel Berdomás and Brais Mirón (Breogán Group) keep hope alive, although they no longer depend on their result to win the trophy. Even so, it would be very positive for the team to be in the top three of the championship.
Víctor Calisto (Inside Motor), Germán Gómez Fortes (Escudería Surco) and Rubén Muñoz (CSM Automoció) have also signed up for the last scoring race of the year. The difference between the three drivers is only seven points. All of them will be looking to finish the season with the best possible result and exploit the full potential offered by the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup. Also noteworthy is the presence of Pedro Lago (Caetano Auto), who completes the list of entrants in what will be the last appointment of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI in the 2022 season.
The return to the tarmac of Viana do Castelo is taking place this weekend following the postponement of the rally in the middle of the year, caused by the high risk of wildfires then, so this test is now at the decisive point of the season. The title will be contested by the four leading drivers in eight special stages, with a total of 70 timed kilometers, at the end of which the first winner in the history of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup will be announced.
The Rally Viana do Castelo is scheduled to start at 08:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, at the Fort of Santiago da Barra in Viana. Doubts about the winner will be cleared after the rally's last special stage, the second pass through the "Outeiro" stage, which is scheduled at 16:59 p.m. on the same day. The final podium and the consagration of the winners will take place again at the Fort of Santiago da Barra, at around 18:00 p.m.TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup: cuatro pilotos optan al título en el Rally Viana do Castelo
