• The Rally Vidreiro Centro De Portugal Marinha Grande 2022 was not decided until the last stage, in a nice duel between Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) and Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group).
The Rally Vidreiro Centro De Portugal Marinha Grande 2022 was the stage of an fierce fight for victory between Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) and Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group), which ended up being won by the former.
On Friday afternoon, Francolí started the rally as best as possible, winning the first two special stages and becoming the leader of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup.
Dani Berdomás and Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) were the only ones who could keep up with Sergi Francolí, as Miguel Campos (Inside Motor) was left out of the fight for the podium when he flattened a wheel in the first special stage of the rally. The incident made him lose a minute and a half as well as all his chances to fight for the victory.
On the Saturday section, Berdomás was the only one to keep up with Francolí, winning the two runs through the Alvaiázere section. On the other hand, Ricardo Costa, who was also looking to close his gap to the two leading drivers, suffered an off-road accident that forced him to abandon the rally, an event that complicates his championship, even though he remains the leader of the Toyota GR Yaris RZ cup.
Finally, Sergi Francolí once again showed his maturity and fighting ability by winning the last three special stages of the rally. He thus added a new victory, the third one of the season. No other driver has so far managed to repeat victory in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, except for Francolí and his co-driver, María Salvo.
Fran Cima (Asturhíbrido) was on the final podium in an incident-free rally and finished ahead of Miguel Campos, who was disappointed with his result, aware that this rally was an opportunity for him to score a good number of points.
Marco Pereira (Caetano Auto) finished in fifth in Vidreiro, leaving a very good feeling with the Toyota GR Yaris RZ. Even so, as he has not competed in all the events of the season and is not registered in the cup, he did not score points for the general classification. Germán Gómez Fortes (Escudería Surco) and Víctor Calisto (Inside Motor) completed the classification of the Rally Vidreiro Centro De Portugal Marinha Grande 2022.
In the general classification of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, Ricardo Costa has bridged the gap from 18 points to only 3 points over Dani Berdomás, who moved up to second place by exchanging positions with Miguel Campos. The latter is one point behind, the same difference that separates him from Fran Cima, who is in fourth place. The fight for the top position among the GR Yaris RZ is now tighter than ever, as the gap between the top finishers is of only 5 points.
The next event of the single-brand cup organized by Toyota Spain, Toyota Caetano Portugal and MSI will be held in Spain, during the Rally RACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada 2022 part of the World Rally Championship (WRC), on next October 21 and 22.
