Rally Viana do Castelo

For the first time, the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup will show its potential on tarmac.

The Viana do Castelo Rally (July 8 and 9), a classic event in the Portuguese rally calendar, will be the first of the four tarmac events of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup to be held this season.

So far, evenness has been the keynote of the Toyota promotion cup, as each one of the rallies had a different winner. The last one being the team made up by Dani Berdomás and Brais Mirón (Grupo Breogán), who climbed to the top of the podium in the most recent Rally Reino de León.

In turn, this first tarmac event will set a new record of registered drivers: ten drivers and co-drivers will take the start on July 8 in Viana do Castelo. The novelty the Portuguese driver Pedro Lago, who will run with the Team Caetano unit.

The rally is held in the north of Portugal, very close to the border with Spain, which will gather dozens  of Spanish fans at the Portuguese stages. These stages are known for being very fast and technical, so the drivers' skills on this surface will be put to the test. These special stages will be a tough test for the Toyota GR Yaris, as were the gravel rallies, in which highly good reliability results were achieved and where the GR Yaris cars were consistently among the best classified in the general classification.

Among the novelties of the rally is a 9-kilometre special stage, an unprecedented feature for all participants. The rally will also feature an urban super special stage in the centre of Viana do Castelo, scheduled for Friday. In total, the drivers will cover 263 kilometres, 77 of which are divided into 10 timed sections.

Ahead of the rally, and with a view to 2023, a collective test was held, where all the drivers registered in the Cup had the opportunity to test different technical solutions to be applied to the Toyota GR Yaris RZ next season.
