Miguel Campos and Ricardo Costa, who are tied on points at the top of the overall classification, pursue a new victory.
The Rally Reino de León will be the fourth scoring event in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup. After the victory of Ricardo Costa and Rui Vilaça (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), in the difficult Rally de Portugal, the Iberian Cup returns to Spain with the strongest entry list of the year.
On Friday, the 10th of June, nine teams will take the start of the Rally of León, to compete in the first of the 8 stages of this event. To date, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup has emerged as one of the most attractive promotional cups for drivers and fans. Not in vain, evenness has been a distinctive feature of this single-brand cup, as each of the rallies of the Iberian Cup has had a different winner. Such a number of alternatives have led to Miguel Campos (Inside Motor) and Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing) currently being tied on points at the top of the overall classification.
On Saturday 11th, 7 more stages will be run to decide who will win the race, a victory for which many drivers are competing. Among the candidates for victory will be Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció), winner of the Rally Terra da Auga and who returns after his absence in Portugal, as well as Fran Cima (Asturhíbrido), who remains third in the championship classification, thanks to his regularity. Added to these names will be the team made up of Oriol Comabella Llavina and Xavier Tort Piniella (Team's Motor), who will run their first rally in the Cup and will do so in the junior category.
Germán Gómez (Escudería Surco) will try to repeat the podium he got in the tough Rally of Portugal. In the WRC event, Gómez was, together with Víctor Calisto, the only driver who competed in all four stages of the rally, thus demonstrating the reliability of the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup.
To all of them we must add the team formed by Daniel Berdomás and Brais Mirón (Breogán Group), who have had mixed luck so far this year, but in each of the races have been among the fastest, scoring numerous stage victories.
This Rally de León will have 97 kilometres of timed stages on gravel. These will be the last stages to be contested on gravel, as from Rally Viana do Castelo and until the end of the season, the races will be run on asphalt.
