On a completely dry terrain and on an atypical day in Galicia, the fast sections of the Rally Terra da Auga have once again highlighted the efficiency of the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup. As was the case in the Rally of the Azores, the times achieved by the drivers have been striking, placing the GR Yaris as one of the best options for the drivers.
Thus, Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) and Dani Berdomás (Breogán Group) finished the race in in the top 10, ahead of cars with superior performance. In addition, all the participants of this second event of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup finished the race.
The Rally Terra da Auga, second scoring event of the season and first in Spain of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, has reaffirmed the success of the Azores Rallye. The rally kicked off with three new teams on the entry list and a summer weather, with Dani Berdomás as the fastest driver, followed by one of the newcomers, Sergi Francolí, who has adapted perfectly to the Toyota GR Yaris RZ, despite being the first time he raced with it.
Soon after, small unforeseen events pushed Miguel Campos (Inside Motor), leader of the championship after his victory in the Azores, away from the leading positions. From that moment on, the Portuguese driver followed a more conservative approach in order to score as many points as possible for the general classification.
A puncture and a spin by Dani Berdomás in the last stage of Saturday morning allowed Sergi Francolí, with his first best time in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup, to move up to the first position. Even so, the Galician driver Berdomás started the second stage with the intention of recovering the time, something he achieved in the fourth stage of the day, leaving the difference in just 1.8 seconds with respect to the Catalan driver.
The sixth and last section of the day, with just over 14 kilometers, would be responsible for determining who would rise to the top, a privilege that finally ended up in the hands of Sergi Francolí, partly due to a setback suffered by Dani Berdomás.
The third place was always in the hands of the Portuguese driver Ricardo Costa (Macedo & Macedo GTW Racing), who has been very fast and consistent throughout the 6 stages. This new podium keeps him in second place in the championship.
Miguel Campos finally finished fourth, while Fran Cima (ACPA), who suffered a blow to his right front wheel in the first stage, finished fifth.
A large crowd in each of the timed special stages of the Rally Terra da Auga has shown, once again, the interest in this specialty in Galicia.
The next race of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Iberian Cup will be held on May 20 and 21, when the World Rally Championship (WRC) will be in Portugal.
